Green Dreams

Rest Easy With Eco-Bedding
Getting a good night's sleep is critical for feeling refreshed and alert during the day. A lack of quality sleep can cause a myriad of problems.  In addition to just being tired, you can also be more prone to accidents.  Your relationships, health, and mental prowess can all be affected as well.  There are many reasons that we don't always get the sleep our bodies need.  One reason is the mattresses that we sleep on aren't comfortable and emit chemicals that can cause us a variety of health problems.

Synthetic chemicals may make mattresses easier and cheaper to manufacture, but at what cost to our health.  Research has shown that these chemicals wind up in our bodies after eight hours of breathing and full-body contact, and what we do manage to discharge finds its way into the environment.  In addition to chemicals, dust mites and fungi oftentimes take up residence in your mattress. These nasty bedmates can also cause allergic responses such as nasal congestion, headaches, and asthma attacks.

What Makes It Green?
Most mattresses are full of chemically treated fabrics covering cheap padding or toxic chemical foams with flimsy foundations.  Sleeping on these conventional mattresses exposes us to toxins and doesn't give our bodies the support we need.

What you and your family sleep on should not harm you with off-gassing chemical fumes, pesticide residues, or allergens.  A healthy choice for a mattress is a naturally hypoallergenic latex mattress.  A natural latex mattress won't harbor dust mites or fungi, is comfortable, nontoxic, versatile and long lasting.  Natural latex is also a sustainable product making it good for earth as well as good for your health.  Natural latex is harvested from rubber trees through a 3 foot slit cut in the side of the tree.  The tree seeps the serum and then heals and repairs itself.  Each tree can be sliced around 180 times a year.

What You Can Do
  • Buy organic wool and cotton sheets, blankets, duvets and comforters, which haven't been grown with synthetic pesticides and/or fertilizers.
  • Consider buying all natural latex mattresses. In addition to being hypoallergenic, they relieve pressure points. Both of these features lead to deeper and longer sleep intervals and a more restful night's sleep.
