Don't Flush Away Your Hard Earned Cash
If your toilet is from 1992 or older, you're probably flushing money down the drain. These older toilets can use between 3.5 and 8 gallons of water every time you flush.
With toilets making up almost 30% of a household's daily water use, you can save a lot of water and money by switching to a newer model. New high-efficiency models use less than 1.3 gallons per flush - that's at least a 65% improvement in water savings!
What Makes It Green?
According to the EPA, a recent government survey showed at least 36 states are anticipating local, regional, or statewide water shortages by 2013. Water conservation reduces water demand, which allows rivers and streams to maintain adequate water levels and flow. H2ouse.org anticipates that a family of 4 would save more than 17,000 gallons of water per year by replacing 3.5 gpf toilets with dual flush toilets.
In addition to preserving our water resources, reducing your water consumption can also indirectly save energy used for water and wastewater development, treatment, and distribution. By conserving water, we can all help preserve water supplies for future generations, save money, save energy and protect the environment.
What You Can Do
If 1 percent of American homes replaced their older, inefficient toilets with WaterSense labeled models, the country would save more than 38 million kwh of electricity-enough to supply more than 43,000 households electricity for one month.
My mom and dad have dual flush toilets in their new house and say that they are easy to use and do the job every bit as good as the traditional models in their old house. Check out Kohler's Persuade and Fountainhead dual flush toilets at www.kohler.com. |
